Biogas Project

In Tanzania’s Oloipili and Orkuyene Maasai communities near Loliondo, women spend 5-7 hours each day making perilous journeys to collect firewood.

As they face injury, dangerous wildlife, and harassment, medical expenses begin to accumulate.

Yet the need for firewood persists. Deforestation only makes the task harder, with accessible firewood sources vanishing.

In 2024, Flint Global began to change the daily lives of Maasai women by introducing biogas technology, turning cow dung into sustainable fuel.

The idea to implement biogas units came from a woman in a Maasai community who had heard of the technology. She shared her idea with Flint’s local trainer, Philemon, who passed it along to Travis in the United States.

A remarkable Flint supporter connected Travis to Smiths Group, who ultimately offered Flint a grant to implement 30 total biogas units into two communities in 2024, in addition to providing entrepreneurship and agriculture training. From inception to execution, this project has embodied Flint’s core value of “people first” at every step of the way.
